1st Edizione (year 2001) - National Drawing Competition - The Artist

Aurelio Nordera"Nordera suggests an artistic expression new and ancient at the same time; as rich of subject and sensations as simple and bare from a linguistic point of view. Nordera is one of rare pure men, with a strong heart and a true poem in his eyes and his soul".
[Gian Maria Erbesato, 1998]

Aurelio Nordera is a sculptor and he was born in Cazzano di Tramigia , 1th  Febraury 1933. He has taught and he has also practiced plastic activities, choosing among all the materials the use of earthenware and marble..

In the Sixties, the artist deals with funeral and holy  art, required by public and private clients , while he is doing , with representative people like Manzù, Greco, Moore, a research that sees "personal comparison between the archaic configuration and the classic one  of 1900" (F. Bartoli).

In the Seventies  the matter has been subjected to interrogation: however this interrogation has been clearly addressed more to the form than to the content’s transmission; during Eighties, Nordera has started to experiment with different and unusual carving categories, such as the movement, the lightness,  challenging  the static marble’s consistence. During Nineties , Nordera has insisted on this research , particularly on dynamic volumes and planes differently moved by lights, moreover stressing the process of matter’s “transfiguration”;  Bartoli writes: in these years the fantasy of the wing has changed in that of the wind , in the same way that a “divine breathe”", (Nordera has abandoned himself both  to the myth fascination and to Muses’ suggestion) has infused a  vital enthusiasm in a body taken away from the figuration ,m in hollow forms materializing in the hollow forms of draperies,, untidy robes, with the force f illusion and the valuation of the creator.

Also the little bronzes “Contro Vento” tell of the elegance to which the bronzes abandon themselves, like an embrace, the female veiled  figure representing the metaphor of the sculpture . In the marble, the purity of the line and plastic form reveal brancusiane harmonies, next to the significant  references to Arturo Martini, through the study of  Wiligelmo and Niccolò, whose works help the artist in finding the original purism about archaic themes, that has also been recovered through the sculpture of the post-war period and they give an expression to a pagan and religious idea of world.

The plastic production has been enriched by drawings, which are not simply exercises or  sketches : these drawings are  study of form,  of figures and of epiphanies revealing "the composing cure " (F. Bartoli), although in the  essential rapidity of the sign.

Aurelio Nordera’ s works are in both private, public, Italian and foreign collections . Among the public  collections, the most important we would like to remember are:
 - majolica on the facade of Palazzo del Podestà in Mantova;
- bronze door of Marengo church (Mantova);
- liturgical furniture  of churches in Villimpenta and Pradello (Mantova);
- stele for AVIS in Mantova.
