The association was established in 1980; its members are primarily of freelance illustrators as well as authors, artists, working in field of illustration, comic strip and animation.
It has successfully increased the standing of illustration as a profession and improved the commercial and ethical conditions of employment for illustrators, especially in national and international public relations.

Since 2003 it has been a member of EIF, European Illustrators forum which manages 20 associations from 14 Countries in order too spread the european illustration all over the world
